The first group of Armenians in New Zealand settled after World War II migrating mainly from Egypt, Lebanon, and Iran.
According to various sources, there are currently up to 2,000 Armenians living in the New Zealand cities of Auckland and Wellington.
Among Armenians, there are high-ranking state officials, doctors, engineers, lawyers, businessmen, politicians, and more. The President of the Supreme Court of New Zealand is Srbuhi Sian Elias, of Armenian descent.
The Armenian Society of New Zealand has been operating since 1996, its objective, the preservation of Armenian identity, with an emphasis on the upbringing of the younger Armenian generation.
A monument named "Monument to Friendship" with a depiction of the Armenian alphabet has been erected in a park in the Meadowood district of Auckland.
