South Korea
The Armenian diaspora in South Korea formed primarily in the last couple decades, and is small and primarily occupational. Political advocacy or lobbying organizations do not operate.
The community is around 65-70 people, most of whom are Armenians on employment contracts. There are also a few Armenian-South Korean families that settled there earlier. The number of permanent residents is 15 and labor migrants around 40-45. There are also 5 Armenian students. As most members of the Armenian community reside in South Korea on employment contracts, they have a temporary resident status.
Community members are mainly young Armenians who have left Armenia to work abroad. Most of them work in the field of IT and high technology, in particular Samsung. There are also science and education workers, as well as a few individuals involved in trade and construction.
In Korea, Armenians mostly live in Seoul and Suwon. Mixed marriages make up about 4%.
The vast majority of the community speaks Armenian.
