Marie Hunanyan
I was born in Düsseldorf, Germany. Growing up I learned to play the piano and the violin, and became familiar with the rich Armenian musical tradition from a very young age. I then studied musicology and art history at the University of Cologne and business administration at the FOM University of Applied Sciences for Economics and Management. During my studies, I worked in the music department at Westdeutscher Rundfunk, one of four main public-broadcasting institutions in Germany. With a passion for organizing and hosting cultural events and gatherings, I then worked as a cultural manager at the Institute for Education and Culture in Cologne.
Despite being raised in Germany, I have always had a strong connection to my Armenian roots, which led me to organize events about Armenian culture, language and history at the University of Cologne. My involvement in Germany's Armenian community and abroad grew with the outbreak of the devastating war in Artsakh. Since then I have become an active board member of several Armenian organisations in Germany and a community activist.
