During his working visit to Spain, High Commissioner Zareh Sinanyan met with the representatives of the Armenian community of Barcelona. The meeting was held at the "Hay Tun" center of the Armenian Cultural Union of Barcelona, which was attended by Chairman of the Union Datev Sulyan, Head of the "Ararat" Armenian Union of Catalonia, Diaspora Youth Ambassador to Spain Sargis Hakobyan, Head of the "Hayk" dance ensemble Hayk Yeghiazaryan and others.

Before the meeting, the High Commissioner took a tour of the one-day Armenian school of the Union, which has about 80 students. The High Commissioner highly appreciated the work of the Union for the preservation of Armenians, stressing that he is well aware of the difficulties of establishing and preserving an Armenian school in Diaspora.

Thanking for the visit, Datev Sulyan noted that the meeting was expected and stressed that the local unions are working together for the sake of community cohesion, preservation of identity and strong ties with the homeland, provision of Armenian education.

Then Zareh Sinanyan presented in detail the activities, programs, repatriation process, situation in the Armenia-Diaspora relations, initiatives aimed at attracting the potential of Diaspora implemented by the office since 2019. The High Commissioner urged the youth of the community to take part in the National Youth Forum and the 8th Pan-Armenian Games to be held in Armenia in August.

The meeting continued in the format of questions and answers. The questions mainly concerned the problems of textbooks and general methodology in the Diaspora schools, repatriation process, challenges of Armenia and Artsakh, difficulties of preserving the Armenian identity in Diaspora.
