27 May 2024
A series of events titled "Repatriation Week" has commenced in Yerevan. The week, dedicated to promoting repatriation and showcasing opportunities for integration in Armenia, is held under the slogan "Your Home Awaits in Armenia."
As part of Repatriation Week, a round-table discussion on "Topical Issues in Repatriation" was held on May 27. This event was initiated by the Repatriation and Integration Center of the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs and involved collaboration with the RA National Assembly, the Institutes of Oriental Studies, History, and Ethnography of the National Academy of Sciences, and the Yerevan State University. Representatives from the Pedagogical University and the National Archives also participated in the discussion.
High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan welcomed attendees at the event. In his speech, he addressed current trends in repatriation and outlined the Office's priorities within this context.
"Highly emphasizing the promotion of repatriation and taking into account the current trends, last year we initiated the opening of the Repatriation and Integration Center for the first time in the history of Armenia. Today, the Center already provides specialized support to our compatriots who moved to Armenia from different countries for the purpose of permanent residence or are in the process of moving. In the future, we also intend to expand the support programs for Diaspora Armenians who want to live permanently in Armenia," said Zareh Sinanyan.
At the event, Hovhannes Aleksanyan, who is responsible for repatriation issues at the Office, presented the Repatriation and Integration Center's activities over the past year. He discussed the challenges faced by repatriates seeking assistance from the Center and highlighted the various support programs available.
The main topics of discussion included current repatriation trends, integration opportunities in Armenia, the potential contributions of repatriates, and international repatriation experiences.
"Repatriation Week" runs from May 27 to 31. Organized by the Repatriation and Integration Center of the RA Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, the week features a variety of events, including workshops for repatriates, both online and offline consultations, an amateur chess tournament for repatriated schoolchildren, and retraining programs.
