Zareh Sinanyan, High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, participated in a Zoom call with Jakub Nowakowski, Director, and Orli Barnett, Education Director of the Cape Town Holocaust & Genocide Centre.
The discussion focused on commemorating the Armenian Genocide in Cape Town, South Africa, and exploring opportunities for future collaboration.
The Cape Town Holocaust & Genocide Centre expressed interest in organizing a public commemoration event and a film screening later this year.
High Commissioner Sinanyan welcomed these initiatives and emphasized the importance of fostering global awareness and education about the Armenian Genocide, particularly through partnerships with respected institutions such as the Cape Town Centre and the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute in Yerevan.
As part of the South African Holocaust & Genocide Foundation (SAHGF), the Cape Town Centre plays a vital role in advancing Holocaust and Genocide education across South Africa.
The conversation also addressed the importance of engaging with the South African Armenian community, estimated at 300–350 individuals primarily residing in Johannesburg.
