On September 11, the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Zareh Sinanyan, attended the opening ceremony of Armenia’s Open J/70 Sailing Championship, organized for the second time by the Winds of Armenia Sailing Club, where he delivered a welcome address.

“This initiative is important not only as a sporting event but also as a strong message that Armenia is open and competitive,” noted Sinanyan. “It marks a new chapter in the sporting and tourism life of our country, allowing Armenia to present itself to the international sports community as an attractive and exciting destination.”

The championship is taking place from September 11–14, bringing together more than 20 teams from different countries.

The chief referee is Italian professional Luca Babini, who has officiated at the London Olympic Games, the America’s Cup, European Championships, and many other world-class competitions. The prize fund totals 10 million AMD.

Founded to promote sailing and water sports in Armenia, Winds of Armenia aims to inspire a new sports and tourism culture, foster youth development, support ecological initiatives at Lake Sevan, and contribute to building modern infrastructure for sports and tourism in the country.
