The High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan was on a Working Visit to Sweden.

As part of the visit, the High Commissioner met with members of the Sweden Democrats parliamentary group at the Riksdag (Parliament), including Björn Olof Söder, Markus Wiechel, Arin Karapet, Yusuf Aydin and other representatives.

During the meeting, the sides emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between Armenia and the Diaspora, given the Diaspora’s geopolitical composition, historical legacy, and geographic spread. Mr. Sinanyan also outlined the role and appointment process of the Institute of Diaspora Commissioners, as well as its main areas of activity, highlighting the importance of ensuring effective community engagement.

Within the framework of the visit, High Commissioner Sinanyan and Arin Karapet toured the Swedish Parliament, familiarizing themselves with the structure and working procedures of the Riksdag.

Mr. Sinanyan also held meetings with representatives of the Armenian community in Uppsala and Gothenburg, organized by Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs in Sweden, Garabed Hakopian.

Zareh Sinanyan presented the activities and priorities of the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, highlighting the importance of effective cooperation with local communities.

Community members raised a number of issues during the meetings, including those related to mandatory military service, repatriation, and the potential for establishing a unified community center.

The High Commissioner thanked the participants for their active involvement and interest, stressing that such meetings foster dialogue and create opportunities to address community issues more effectively.
