Zareh Sinanyan held meeting with African Union Commission Director for Citizens and Diaspora Organizations Amr Aljowaily

On February 25, Zareh Sinanyan, High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, held a video meeting with African Union Commission Director for Citizens and Diaspora Organizations Amr Aljowaily. 

The meeting was also attended by Sahak Sargsyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Ethiopia, and Armenia’s Permanent Observer and Representative to the African Union.

During the discussion, the parties explored opportunities to deepen cooperation, with a particular emphasis on practical ways to strengthen bilateral engagement in the field of diaspora affairs. They highlighted the importance of closer ties between Armenian and African diaspora communities as a means of creating new opportunities for collaboration at the global level.

The conversation also touched on the organization of high-level reciprocal visits and mutual participation in events hosted by both sides. In this context, participation in the Armenia–Diaspora Conference, as well as in diaspora-focused conferences and seminars organized by the African Union, was discussed.

The parties underscored the need to establish a solid legal framework for cooperation, including the possibility of institutionalizing relations through the signing of a memorandum of understanding or other agreements.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continuing constructive dialogue and to building a mutually beneficial, sustainable, and long-term partnership in the areas of diaspora policy and multilateral cooperation.
