The High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Zareh Sinanyan, is on a working visit to France.
On April 21, Zareh Sinanyan took part in a commemoration ceremony in the city of Jœuf, France, dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide, where he delivered a speech.
In his remarks, the High Commissioner stated:
“The Armenian Genocide is not only a tragedy; it is also a story and a promise of unity, resilience, gratitude toward friendly nations, and hope for the future. I consider it important to emphasize that all those who stand by our side not only pay tribute to the memory of the victims, but also give us strength and confidence to build a peaceful and positive future.”
Speeches were also delivered by the Mayor of Jœuf, André Corzani; the President of the Meurthe-et-Moselle Departmental Council, Chaynesse Khirouni; the Prefect of Meurthe-et-Moselle, Yves Séguy; and the Vice President of the “Diaspora arménienne du Grand Est” association, Sonia Balaian. The event was attended by representatives of the Armenian community, as well as local and regional officials.
Following the speeches, a march took place toward the Jœuf Youth and Cultural Center (MJC), where an official reception was organized at the initiative of the Mayor.
A working meeting was subsequently held at Jœuf City Hall, attended by Mayor André Corzani; the Prefect of the Val de Briey district, Hélène Géronimi; the President of the Meurthe-et-Moselle Departmental Council, Chaynesse Khirouni; the President of the “Diaspora arménienne du Grand Est” association, André Nersier; Vice Presidents Sonia Balayan and Liana Babayan; as well as representatives of the Armenian community and the municipality.
During the meeting, the High Commissioner expressed his gratitude for the organization of the Armenian Genocide commemoration ceremony, highlighting France’s consistent commitment to preserving the memory of the Genocide, as well as its continued support for citizens of Armenian origin.
The parties also emphasized the importance of the integration of the Armenian community in France, noting that it contributes both to full participation in French society and to the preservation of Armenian national identity and culture. Zareh Sinanyan also expressed his appreciation for the support provided to the establishment of the “Racines et Lumière” school, describing it as a successful example of integration combined with the preservation of cultural ties.
The discussion also addressed prospects for developing decentralized cooperation, particularly in the context of partnerships between schools in Armenia and France. The “sister school” model would enable exchanges between students and teachers, joint educational initiatives, and reciprocal visits, thereby strengthening bilateral ties.
Opportunities for cooperation with the French University in Armenia were also discussed.
On the same day, the High Commissioner visited the Jœuf Youth and Cultural Center (MJC), where he met with its Director, Jean-Michel Lavanoux, familiarized himself with the institution’s activities, and expressed his gratitude for the continued support and care shown toward the Armenian community.
