Statement by Zareh Sinanyan, RA High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, on the occasion of the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide

24 April 2026

Dear Sisters and Brothers of the Diaspora,

Dear Compatriots,

Today, once again, we honor the memory of the 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide with reverence and a deep sense of responsibility.

Alongside the immense human losses and the dispossession of our homeland, the Armenian Genocide also resulted in the widespread dispersion of our people across the world, giving rise to the Armenian Diaspora.

With profound respect and eternal reverence for the memory of the holy martyrs of the Genocide, it is our duty to never allow this chapter of history to be repeated — under any circumstances and in any form.

One hundred and eleven years after that tragedy, we are once again reminded that we are obligated to build a strong, sovereign, and secure state where human dignity, fundamental rights, and peaceful life are upheld as the highest values. We are reminded that we must transform our historical pain into responsible statecraft by advancing Armenia’s agenda for sustainable development in conditions of peace and by creating the conditions for Armenia to become a unifying and attractive center for Armenians worldwide, as well as a constructive partner to the international community.

The most meaningful way to honor the victims and losses of the Genocide is through unity in the service of strengthening our statehood — in both Armenia and the Diaspora — transforming our national solidarity into a practical reality.

Ensuring a stable and lasting peace in the region remains the highest goal and driving force of the Government of Armenia and of each one of us.

Dear Compatriots,

We are obligated to pass on to future generations not only the painful memory of the past, but also a reborn, renewed, strong, and resilient state.

Our collective strength lies in our unity — regardless of geography, differences, or the place and way of life destiny has assigned to each of us. Together, the Republic of Armenia and the Armenian Diaspora are capable of fulfilling this vital mission.

With reverence for the memory of our holy martyrs.

Strength and unity to our people — in Armenia and in every Armenian community throughout the Diaspora.

Long live the Republic of Armenia.
