On June 19, the High Commissioner met with the Director General of the Ethiopian Diaspora Service, Fitsum Arega Gebrekidan, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Sahak Sargsyan.

During the meeting, the parties shared their respective experiences in engaging with diaspora communities and discussed programs aimed at promoting repatriation, effectively leveraging community potential, and strengthening ties between state institutions and diaspora communities. The interlocutors held in-depth discussions on the opportunities and prospects for advancing Armenian-Ethiopian cooperation, particularly in the areas of diaspora policy, exchange of expertise, and the implementation of joint initiatives.

Zareh Sinanyan highly valued the friendly relations between Armenia and Ethiopia and the continued development of bilateral cooperation. The High Commissioner also formally invited Fitsum Arega Gebrekidan to participate in the Global Armenian Summit '26, which will take place in Yerevan on November 5-8, 2026.

At the end of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in diaspora affairs was signed between the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Armenia and the Ethiopian Diaspora Service.
