04 March 2021
High Commissioner Zareh Sinanyan had an open-door meeting with representatives of the Armenian community at the Armenian Embassy in Russia.
Armenian diaspora representatives from Moscow, Tver, Pskov, Orenburg, Dolgoprudny, Perm and Penza were present at the meeting with the High Commissioner.
There were discussions around our Office’s 2021 programs, the country’s current situation and human resource policy. Questions were also raised about acquiring Armenian citizenship. Mr. Zareh Sinanyan noted that there are planned reforms in this area, for instance, to reduce the period of obtaining citizenship to 3 months instead of the current 3-6 months.
Regarding possible legislative and other legal changes related to the Diaspora and repatriation, the High Commissioner once again stressed that we attach importance to the creation of a Diaspora upper house in the National Assembly of Armenia, and work is underway on the "On Repatriation" draft law.
