Zareh Sinanyan Meets with AGBU Members in New York

During his working visit to the United States, High Commissioner Zareh Sinanyan met with members of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) at their headquarters in New York. Chairman of AGBU Armenia, Vazken Yacoubian, and Central Board member, Arda Nazerian Haratunian, also joined the meeting virtually. The High Commissioner first highlighted the work of our Office during the war, discussed the impact of last year’s bombing on Lebanon’s Armenian community and also noted the importance of AGBU’s activities and projects during a difficult period for the Homeland. Mr. Zareh Sinanyan touched upon the situation in Artsakh and the various humanitarian and development programs in the works. In particular, he shed light on the importance of the “iGorts” program, bringing Diaspora Armenian professionals to Armenia to serve in the public sector. Everyone agreed that the state should provide opportunities to harness the greater intellectual and professional prowess of the Diaspora in Armenia. Discussions also included the internal political situation in Armenia and the High Commissioner answered all participant questions in detail.
