High Commissioner's Independence Day Speech
22 September 2021
Dear brothers and sisters of the Diaspora,
Today marks the 30th anniversary of Armenia’s independence. These past three decades of national harbor, complex circumstances and historic lessons form the basis of our nation’s future. And each of us has a role in building that future.
In the past year, many things changed within our national aspirations and collective ideals. And once again, it became apparent that the Republic of Armenia can progress only with a state-centered ideology coming from both the state and the Diaspora. We each have our part in strengthening our historic homeland. The present and future of our historic homeland depends on an accurate analysis of the past. It depends on the united will of all of our compatriots.
The Armenian Diaspora has contributed greatly to sustaining Armenia’s independence over the last 30 years. It’s difficult to find a sector that hasn’t seen the influence and investment of the Diaspora. The next years of independence must be anchored on the inclusion of the Diaspora’s complete intellectual and scientific potential. This must be the top priority of our agenda.
Lastly, dear compatriots, independent Armenia is waiting for you right now. Come to the homeland. Improve and create the Armenia of your dreams. Repatriate and empower our nation.
The ultimate message for this year’s independence is this: the last 30 years compels us to wholeheartedly live with the homeland, become worthy of the sacrifices of the sons of Armenia, and develop, become knowledgeable, have a strong state and a fully integrated Diaspora.
Happy Armenian Independence Day.
