High Commissioner Zareh Sinanyan's message on the occasion of the 107th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide
24 April 2022
Dear brothers and sisters in Diaspora,
Today, all Armenians commemorate and pay tribute to the memory of millions of innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide.
For every Armenian, April 24 is not only the day of remembrance and condemnation of one of the most tragic pages of the Armenian and world history, but also an inexorable part of our identity and thought. The memory of the innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide, the pain of the loss of the homeland, the reality of becoming a nation scattered all over the world once again remind us of a simple truth: in order to have an independent, safe and viable homeland, we must rely solely on ourselves, implement our national potential in the homeland and preserve our identity in Diaspora.
Being a descendant of the Genocide survivors, I know what it means to personally bear the spiritual and moral burden of a lost family and destroyed home. Our struggle to remain Armenian, our efforts to develop the homeland, the responsibility to educate the Armenian generations are ways to honor the memory of our ancestors and keep their memory alive. Through our joint efforts we will persevere and prevail and overcome all the obstacles that we face.
