Rafayel Petrosyan was born and raised in Yerevan. He is doing research in Biophysics and Nonequilibrium Statistical Mechanics. Rafayel obtained a Doctor of Sciences degree from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich). Afterward, he did his postdoctoral research at the University of Alberta in Canada.

He likes playing video and board games, reading books, and doing urban hikes in his free time.
