Anna Hovhannisyan is from Moscow, Russia. She graduated from the Law Department, Moscow State University of M.V. Lomonosov, got Bachelor's degree in Russian Private Law and a Master's degree (L.L.M) in American Business Law with Pericles Center for International Legal Education. For her first degree, she studied mechanical engineering at Yerevan Polytechnic Institute.

She worked as an engineer for more than 13 years in the hydropower industry and then 13 years in administrative positions. She received a second higher education and worked the next six years as a Litigator in a Dispute Resolution practice, including practicing as a freelance lawyer and providing clients with professional legal services.
