Tigran Hovhannisyan
My name is Tigran Hovhannisyan and I am 22 years old. I was born and raised in Belgium. My parents moved to Brussels from Gyumri.
After completing my high school education in Brussels, I continued my education at the Catholic University of Louvain in the Faculty of Law and Criminology. At the moment, I have taken a break from my education to specialize in domestic and international freight transportation, in order to develop the family business started by my parents.
Following the advice and example set by my parents, I have gotten acquainted with and learned about the homeland, the Armenian value system, our culture, and the Armenian language.
2020 represented a major breakthrough in my consciousness and self-awareness as an Armenian. It was through the intention of wanting to transfer humanitarian aid to Artsakh that I discovered the social, cultural, and educational center of the Belgian-Armenian community: Hayi Tun. Currently, I am an active member of the center and I am especially involved in organizing cultural and educational events. I place special importance on the events which are organized in support of Artsakh. The main priority in our community, in particular mine, is not only to provide humanitarian assistance to our forced displaced compatriots, but also to preserve the cultural heritage of Artsakh and protect the rights of people.
In 2022, I joined the community’s Armenian youth committee as an active member, and my involvement in the community gradually increased.
In 2023, I was elected as the Vice President of the Hayi Tun Council for a four-year term. I consider it my mission to support the strengthening of Armenian culture, Armenian education and upbringing, the spread of Armenian values, and ties with the homeland.
In 2024 I became a member of the Committee of Armenians in Belgium.
By participating in the Diaspora Youth Ambassador Program, I hope to gain experience in order to create stronger ties between Armenia and our community, as well as developing a deeper understanding of my homeland and our national vision.
