Ani Margaryan
My name is Ani Margaryan, and I was born in Yerevan. I have been a resident of the People’s Republic of China for the past eight years.
Before moving to China, I gained expertise in art appraisal and ethnography through my involvement with various art centers and institutions, such as the Teryan Cultural Center. Subsequently, I established my own art store-gallery, bringing together approximately 100 Armenian artisans. I also co-authored projects aimed at preserving Armenian visual and performing arts, such as "Sari Aghjik is an Armenian Folk Song" and "Lavash".
I hold bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees in art history and have a decade of experience in exploring Armenian art and the historical and cultural connections between Armenia and China. Currently, I am serving as a post-doctoral fellow at Soochow University, one of China's prominent universities, where I am engaged in a research project focusing on unraveling the distinct attributes of Armenian traditional attire and its associations with the Great Silk Road.
I have authored over 20 articles in English and Chinese, delving into the themes of Sino-Armenian and Sino-Western cultural interactions. Additionally, I am the founder and content writer of two analytical websites. One scrutinizes Chinese influence in Western visual culture (www.chinamericanart.com), while the other focuses on Chinese-Armenian cultural exchanges (www.chinarmart.com) and is the informational partner of the Armenian Student Association of China.
My commitment to promoting Armenian culture is further demonstrated by the lectures I have delivered in various Chinese cities at academic and public forums. These lectures have not only educated Chinese audiences about Armenian culture but also fostered a deeper understanding and appreciation of our heritage. Over the years, I have been honored with several scholarships, including the Jiangsu Government Scholarship for 2021 and the Nanjing Municipal Government Foreign Student Scholarship in 2017. In 2023, I won the first prize for the English Short Story "Crossing the Silk Road" at the Nanjing Normal University contest.
As a Young Ambassador of Diaspora in China, I am committed to sustaining and advancing the Armenian identity far from our homeland by establishing enduring and structured platforms. I strive to support the Armenian community in China, identifying their needs and introducing them to opportunities for collaboration, as will be learned through the Diaspora Youth Ambassador program.
