Janeta Bourounsouzian

My name is Janeta Bourounsouzian. I was born in Damascus, Syria, which makes me a Syrian-Armenian. I studied pharmacy at Damascus University and earned my Master's degree in laboratory diagnosis. In parallel, I graduated from the Higher Institute of Music as a pianist.
I grew up in a vibrant Armenian community and was an active member of the Armenian Catholic Union and the Hamazkayin Educational and Cultural Society. Within this unique environment, I deepened my understanding of Armenian culture, heritage, history, and identity, always remembering that I am a descendant of survivors of the 1915 Armenian Genocide.
As a participant of the Diaspora Youth Ambassador program from a country that has endured a terrible crisis over the past 13 years, my mission is to give hope to Syrian-Armenians. I aim to strengthen their connections with our homeland, Armenia, and raise awareness about its realities. I want to encourage and assist people, especially youth, to repatriate while reminding my community to uphold our values, culture, language, and history.
