Sona Mekhakyan was born and raised in Belarus. She graduated from the Belarusian State Academy of Music, specializing in piano, and is a laureate of several international and national competitions.

She has worked as a piano teacher and accompanist in music schools and colleges, and also taught music at the Armenian Sunday School in Minsk.

Since 2018, Sona has been actively involved with the Erebuni Armenian Folk Dance Ensemble and the Minsk City Armenian Cultural and Educational Society “Hayastan.”
