Sona Baghumyan
I have been in Belgium for 20 years in a small town far from most Armenian communities, where my family has been the only source for anything Armenian. I studied at the University of Liège and at UCLouvain, where I received my Master's degree in law with a focus on European law.
During the start of the recent Artsakh war, I decided to join the Committee of Armenians in Belgium to help our homeland. I took part in organizing different events, official and media meetings and contributed to the adoption of different resolutions in the Belgian Parliament to condemn the aggression against Artsakh and demand the release of Armenian captives. I also worked with the RA Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs to understand what was needed at the time.
Today, I am the first Diaspora Youth Ambassador in Belgium and I intend to use all the tools that were provided to us during the first phase of the program to strengthen the links between Diaspora, Armenia and Artsakh. I am convinced that our identity, our wisdom, and our roots are the source of our union and our success, because there is potential in every Armenian to be used for the development of our homeland.
