Purpose
The goal is to expand the networking capabilities of the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs.
About the program
The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia adopted the Law on Amendments to the Law "On Public Service" on November 17, 2021. This law allows the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs to appoint Diaspora Affairs Commissioners as advisors in foreign countries on a public basis.
The networking capacity of the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs is being expanded with the introduction of the Institute of Commissioners for Diaspora Affairs.
The purpose of introducing the Institute of Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs is to enhance the cooperation between Armenia and Diaspora, improve the effectiveness of the work in this area, establish stable relations between Armenian communities, involve the community's potential, support the preservation of Armenian identity, facilitate repatriation, and to oversee initiatives to integrate Diaspora Armenians in Armenia.
Commissioners for Diaspora Affairs are appointed by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia through a public process as advisors. They are not paid and do not have a standardized work schedule. Their role is to provide professional advice in the areas of Armenia-Diaspora cooperation and to support the activities of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs in interacting with the Diaspora.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
The candidate for the Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs must meet the following criteria:
- Have extensive connections and recognition within their community
- Hold positive working relationships with various community circles
- Have an excellent understanding of the RA Government's policy towards the Diaspora
- Be ready to work in different areas, such as youth groups, professional networks, education, culture, community development, and economic relations with Armenia
- Have sufficient time and resources to fulfill the responsibilities of this position
- Position can be held by a person with a higher education, who is over twenty-five years old, fluent in Armenian, and knowledgeable in at least two foreign languages
